Shane has overall responsibility for the production of aggregate products at Drury Quarry which meet our customers’ quality and specification requirements.

In the 16 years Shane has worked with us, he’s been employed in a number of roles, honing his talents starting out as an operator (with a background in engineering) and becoming the Quarry Manager at Drury some 7 years ago.

An initial interest in heavy machinery has developed into a passion for creating products which meet our customer’s requirements.

I am charged with making sure that the operations team is pulling in the same direction. This includes making sure that our apprentices receive the same thorough training that I was fortunate to receive, albeit with new gear and equipment and within a robust Health & Safety and Environmental framework.

Outside of day to day operations we’ve also hosted many events at the quarry including a private rock concert with Jimmy Barnes for our staff, customers and neighbours,  and Community Open Days for the public. Our ability to work as a team comes to the fore at events like these – when you’ve got young children (employees of the future) at the quarry we want to make it a day that they will always remember.

Shane has a A Grade Quarry Manager’s Certificate, and is a member of IOQ NZ.  He won the IOQ NZ Gough’s Caterpillar Award for Quarry Manager of the Year in 2007, winning an industry trip to the United States and visited a number of quarries across the US to further his industry knowledge.

It’s a busy but supportive environment and at the end of each day Shane looks forward to going home to enjoy time with his family.
